Content creation can be an important part of business development, marketing and visibility. Content can signal to others the areas we focus on, are passionate about, or work with clients on. Content creation can involve focusing on several different areas, including:
What type of content do you want to be creating? Ongoing content creation starts to build a body of work overtime, in step by step basis. As we write, shoot or create, our voice and message become clearer to us, and to those we serve. Note that with many of the channels you may choose to become active on, you can syndicate or share content from one channel to another. How to get started: Take 15 minutes this week making a list, or creating a MindMap, or using post-its and index cards to map out all your ideas for content. Don’t self-censure. Just make a list! From there, create a list of possible post titles for videos, or articles, and schedule in blocks to write it out. Remember, what doesn’t get scheduled, often doesn’t get done! Where to go: If you have a copy of Coaching Business Builder, take a look at section 3 – Marketing Essentials, and work through the exercises associated with the areas you are interested in. Also be sure to use the Content Planning Tools available to you in the Planner Section. You might want to use the Content Planner to lay out your Annual list of themes, and then start capturing ideas or tracking posts/items with the Monthly Content Tracker and Monthly Content Journal – One Line a Day. Let us know how you are using the Coaching Business Builder – Send a photo or two of the planner in action! Best wishes, Jennifer Jennifer Britton, PCC, CPCC, CHRL

Be sure to download the associated worksheet as well over at PlanDoTrack.com We have over 120 days left of the year, and there’s still a significant amount of time to revisit your annual goals, tweak them, and/or play full out in achieving them. As you step into this week consider these questions: Around Annual Goals:

We'll be taking a deep dive into the virtual facilitation toolbox to support you in creating even more powerful virtual programming, while giving you time during the day to map it out. Learn more and reserve your spot here. Save 25% when you register with a colleague! Marketing is an on-going focus for business at all stages - whether we are new or established businesses, spending time consistently on marketing is key. Here are five elements you may want to include in your marketing strategy for the rest of the year. #1 – Outreach What is on your plan to reach out to new people as well as your network. What are the touchpoints you have planned to keep people in the loop? What are you doing on a consistent basis to be in conversation with your community? If it’s not scheduled, put some outreach time in your schedule right now. #2 - Content Creation and Repurposing A few weeks ago, I wrote about the many reasons content creation is important. So is repurposing the materials. What are the 3 things you are excited about creating? #3 – Digitization 2020 has been the year of the pivot to all things virtual and digital. I’ll be doing a series of blog posts this all on digitization. Let’s get you thinking of this already. What products do you have that could be made into a digital version? If you have a book, what could become an e-book? If you have a card deck, how could that become digitized? #4 – Tracking What You Are Doing What do you notice about revenue flows? Time investments and what’s getting you traction? With your metrics in mind, what do you want to say YES to? NO to? #5 - Dedicated Time to Marketing and Moving Key Projects Forward – Regularly A final piece of this is to ensure that you have time built in to dedicate to marketing and executing your programming on a regular basis. What time have you earmarked? What do you notice about your productivity during that time? Enjoy your focus! Incorporating what I call “The power of the pause” is an important element of remote work. What can we do to make more of a pause during our calls?
These activities can often be more powerful when you then leave time for dialogue and conversation afterwards. What do you want to do to leave some time for reflective pause? Contact her by phone at (416)996-8326 Here at the Coaching Business Builder, during the mid part of 2019 I did a series of marketing posts around the nine promotional vehicles I touch on in Section 3 of Coaching Business Builder. They include: Speaking, Blogging, Podcasting, Networking, Article Writing, Product Development, Lunch and Learns, Associations, Trade Shows and Conferences Given that marketing is usually an ongoing effort for businesses of all ages (yes, even if you’ve been around for a while, marketing is still important – there’s always a next inflection point), it can be useful to build in time on a regular basis to be putting attention around marketing campaigns. Just like the tagline of Daily Steps + Consistent Action = Momentum asserts, in marketing it often about the consistency which is important. A one-off email or one-off tweet may not capture the attention of who you want to connect with. Some of the marketing approaches I’ve been experimenting with this year include my focus on podcasting, as well as my continued focus on Instagram, articles and also blogging. What are the approaches you are experimenting with at the moment? What are you noticing you are enjoying? What’s feeling like it needs a boost? Regardless of marketing vehicle, it can be useful to have a variety of ideas to pull from. Whether you are focusing on Instagram and need a list of post ideas, or you are focusing on podcasting and want to focus in on your exploration. Enjoy! As a coach, you may be great at coaching, but letting people know what you are offering, may be the stretch or hard space. Four things to keep in mind as you go about letting others know what you have to offer: #1 – Keep connected with your WHY. Remembering why you are doing something can help you go the extra mile. It is usually the thing that pulls us out of the trough to try that next thing. As I continue to see in my own business, it’s often that one next thing that creates the breakthrough, or the sale! #2 – Remember that communicating something only once may not be enough. In marketing we often talk about the 7-11 times rule. That it takes multiple touchpoints (hopefully in different ways – i.e. video, article, blog post, call etc) for someone to become aware of what you have to offer. That’s even before they decide they need it now. #3 – Not everyone is going to need what you have to offer now. One of the challenges of creating a “pent up demand” where something is only available for the next 5 days is that people may not need it now, but they may need it later, when it’s no longer even available. Thinking in the medium-term so that you might make it an annual offer each winter can help to maximize your own investment, while also planting the seed, and creating awareness by others. #4 – Track your results. Always be asking where people heard about you when they register or engage you. What are those sources which are netting business. Which aren’t? How much time are you investing? Over the last year I’ve posted quite a few posts on marketing – you may want to take a look at these to go a bit deeper into these ideas:
In the Spotlight Series I did last summer, I highlighted 9 of the more common marketing vehicles coaches may leverage. Take a look at them in the July 2019 archives and August archives. Already this year I am enjoying the conversations we’re having at the Coaching Biz Growth Lab. It’s an annual group which meets bi-weekly throughout the year on Friday afternoon for learning, coaching and accountability. Consider joining us for a quarter or the year! A week later, what are you noticing about the daily steps you are getting into? An important part of daily action is noticing the focus of these items. What are the things you are focusing on? What is important to be saying “yes” to and “no” to? It can be useful to link the focused action to your WHY. The purpose of why you are doing this. Without connection to the WHY it may be very easy to lose motivation around daily steps. Reconnecting with your VISION and/or INTENTIONS can be a significant motivator. If you haven’t looked at your vision since the start of the year, now’s the time to pick it up. Another part of the FOCUS and DOING equation is noticing WHEN action is best placed? Are you wanting to get this done first thing in the day? Would it be useful to get it done later in the day? When are you earmarking time? Are the components chunked enough? This last year one of the Weekly Planning Hacks was about chunking things down into smaller pieces. When things are too big, it may be difficult to get things accomplished. What are the chunks you want to focus in on? Focused action is an important part of the DOING and creating momentum. What is the focus you are undertaking right now? What could you do to amplify that? DOING is another piece of the puzzle and a couple of weeks into the month, it’s pretty easy to start losing momentum and having other things get in the way of things that are important. What can you be doing to perhaps:

It’s a great opportunity to crack that spine on your new planner and dive in. Ready to get started? What are your goals this year? Take a few minutes to write them out. As you write things down, also consider these questions:
What would magnify them? Are these goals really a stretch? What would double them? 10X them? 100X them? While stretch goals can be an encouragement to some, note that they may be a discourager to others. Who are you going to share your goals with? We know that the act of public accountability often ups the ante around what we are committed to doing. It can sometimes light a spark, or add oxygen to a smaller ember. Finally – TRACK. Where are you starting your year? What are your metrics – revenue, inventory, followers, subscriptions, etc. Take a few minutes today to note your starting point and be sure to leverage the power of the Monthly Daily Trackers if you have a copy of PlanDoTrack or Coaching Business Builder. I’m looking forward to bringing you another year of weekly blog posts related to business development and growing your coaching business. We take a look at many of these topics in greater depth at the Coaching Biz Growth Lab – a group that meets annually on Fridays from 3 – 4 pm ET (usually the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month). 1st call for 2020 will occur on Friday January 10th.
