As we go to wind-down 2019 I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for joining us here at the Coaching Business Builder. As I think back to this year it's been amazing to serve so many of you through individual coaching, the PlanDoTrack Virtual Retreats, group coaching at the Coaching Biz Growth Lab and also via the 52 Weeks of Planning, Doing and Tracking .  I also hosted monthly calls related to the Coaching Business Builder and PlanDoTrack many of which you can find at my YouTube channel - check out the Coaching Business Builder and  PlanDoTrack Playlists.
I'm also excited for what is just around the corner. January 1st I get to kick off the NEW 60 Day Coaching Business Builder Accelerator program. for the first 60 days of the year you'll be supported through group calls, some 1-1 time with me weekly, and also lots of peer support. 2020 Vision - What's yours?

One of my favorite calls I held this fall was the 2020 Vision session. With just a few days left before we step into the new year I thought it might be a good idea to share this 30 minute hands-on vision session with you here at the blog.

If you are wanting to focus on growing your coaching business during 2020 I hope that you will consider joining me for either the 60 Day Coaching Business Accelerator which begins on January 1st, or the year-long Coaching Biz Growth Lab. 

In both programs we'll be exploring key business development topics for professional coaches today - from branding, to product and program development, to marketing and sharpening your message.

There are a few more days before we wrap up the year and I’m excited to be gearing up to get going with the 60 Day Coaching Business Builder Accelerator program on January 1st. Coaches: 10 Tools/Resources to Check Out in Growing Your Business

It's almost the start of a new decade and with that, it might be time to do a "refresh" on your toolbox.
On a practical business level, there are many areas I like to have a variety of resources in, including marketing, design, and communication. As I thought about all my creative projects this year, I was aware of how many of these tools have become standard fare in my work.
Here are the top 10 go-to resources I used this year in my remote business:

Zoom - My absolute go-to for any sort of client communication. Some days I spend upwards of 5-7 hours  leading groups, holding individual coaching calls and also leading meetings with members of my project teams. Zoom has many "Bells and whistles" including breakouts, and annotation, which may be available with the type of account you ahave.

Rev and Temi for transcription. As someone who leads dozens of hours of training and calls a week, it's important to be able to quickly transcribe many of these videos and audio calls. Both services are great, and at a different price point. What could be important to transcribe? How is your speaking creating new content for your business?

Lumen 5 - Lumen 5 has been my go-to for years in terms of transcribing blog to video. IT's always a nice change to be able to include video content, instead of just written media. Check them out at : https://www.lumen5.com

AdobeSpark - AdobeSpark is another option for great video creation. Check them out and consider how you might use them in creating some new video messages.

Loom - If you want to do a demo or lead people thorugh your screen, nothing beats loom. I've incorporated a few loom videos to take people around the Conversation Sparker website, and it has led to sales! Check it out.

Dropbox - I've been a dropbox user for years and it's where I house most of my videos to share with groups I lead.

Teachable - Teachable is the back end of what I use to house my on-demand programs as well as the backbone for my annual programs. I've found it to be a very scalable framework for both on-demand and live programming. Check out what the Coaching Design Studio has to offer - and perhaps join us for 2020 programming which will include the 60 Day Coaching Business Builder Accelerator, and the annual Learning Lab and Design Studio, and the Coaching Biz Growth Lab (meets on Friday afternoons).

Mighty Networks - Earlier this year I created the Conversation Sparker Zone over at Mighty Networks. It's a community hub for people to connect around group and team coaching issues, business development as well as virtual and remote work. Check it out and join in on the conversation!

AdobeStock and Unsplash - For all things graphics I leverage my subscription through AdobeStock and also turn to Unsplash for photos to use in design. They usually get incorporated into any design work in Canva.

Systems Check for Coaching Businesses

Systems are the heart of any coaching business. One of the more popular articles I wrote this year for the Coaching Tools Company is entitled “Five Systems at the Heart of Your Coaching Business”. It can be found here.

In the article, I explore five of the areas I’ve consistently seen coaches benefit from putting attention around:
  1. Financial systems
  2. Client Systems
  3. Marketing
  4. Content
  5. Sales

Let’s look at each one of these right now, and consider which of these could use more attention:
  1. Financial systems – How are you doing with things including invoicing, accounts payable, receivable? What makes it easy for people to do business with you? What do you find challenging? Is it time to get some advice in this area, or renegotiate your terms?
  2. Client systems – What are the things clients receive as they become a client of yours? What message does it send? Is there anything you’ve been wanting to create for your clients which doesn’t yet exist? Consider welcome letters, questionnaires, agreements etc.
  3. Marketing – Marketing is at the heart of a coaching business. Whether we are marketing via relationship building, content marketing, in-person or via social media, what are you doing to let people know about what you have to offer, what coaching is and how you provide support? What could use an update? A refresh? Look at your metrics? What’s working? What’s not?
  4. Content – Content marketing may be a tangential part of a coaching business, however, over time, it’s likely that you may find yourself blogging, podcasting or creating content for reading lists and TED talks you recommend around the topics you coach around. For those that are going offer more than coaching services, this may be a significant part of your work. If you have a copy of the Coaching Business Builder, check out the Content Development Tools, including the Content Daily Trackers. Note what content you have created this year, OR spend time thinking about the top 3 areas you would like to develop content around for the new year.
  5. Sales – What do you have in place around sales? Is it time for a web update? How clear is your call to action? What do you want people to do on each of your webpages?

Client Outreach at Year End for Coaches

It’s almost the end of 2019 and an opportunity to reach out to your clients to say thank you. Solid relationships are at the heart of a solid coaching business. Whether your clients come back for more support OR refer you on, maintaining solid relationships with clients is key.

Given that we are moving towards year end, have you considered some of these outreach opportunities?
  • Sending a holiday or new year card
  • Hosting a call (planning, visioning) for your network
  • Letting them know about upcoming 2020 programming
  • Providing a gift card towards services (yours or others) for the new year

As you consider what you want to do, ask yourself the following:
  • What will people find meaningful?
  • What would your clients value?
  • What is the message you would like to share? What is important to communicate at this time of year?

Three Events you may be interested in this week - Planning, Doing and Tracking!

#As we start to roll down to the end of the year, there's three events I'm hosting this week which I think you may be interested in.

#1 - Community Call Monday December 9th from 11 - 11:30 am ET - Do! Discernment. 
If you have marked 2020 as your year of focus, join me to explore four things you might want to consider tweaking.

Year End Checklist and Setting Up for 2020 Success

Over the last few weeks here at the blog we’ve been exploring different elements for year end. This week I wanted to draw your focus to a big of a laundry list of common year end items coaches may find themselves working around.

Last year, as part of the Coaching Biz Growth Lab, (a group I host throughout the year) I pulled together a handy, year-end checklist which you can download here.

You’ll note that this list includes a list of a variety of different tasks and activities including a focus on financials, clients, goals and other areas.

Taking some time BEFORE the end of the year is critical for getting the year wrapped up and setting focus for the year ahead. What are the areas you want to put attention around?

It's December 1st which means that we're stepping into a new month and a new focus with the 1 BizStepADay series. This daily prompt series started at the beginning of the year and invites to you engage with a daily prompt.  This month's focus is for you to take some time to note your accomplishments and celebrate.

​The 1BizStepADay series includes a daily prompt to get you taking action on a different aspect of your business. Each month has a different theme.
